Mrs William Funnell nee Pippa Nolan, 33, was a member of Britain's bronze-medal eventing team at the recent World Equestrian Games in Jerez. She is shown here with Supreme Rock, a 14-year-old Irish Thoroughbred owned by the Pitt-Lewthwaite Syndicate, the horse on which she competed. The pair also won this year's Badminton Horse Trials, were members of Britain's silver-medal Olympic team in Sydney, 2000, and have twice been European champions. Mrs Funnell lives at Forest Green, Surrey, and has represented Britain as an event rider since 1986.

This is an authentic original page from Country Life magazine, part of the iconic series often affectionately referred to as the “Girls in Pearls” portraits — elegant society images that captured a distinctive era of British publishing and portraiture.
