The featured frontispiece this week is a portrait of Lady Katharine Hamilton, youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Abercorn. Lady Katharine was appointed a Woman of the Bedchamber to H.M. the Queen in 1927, and her engagement to Lieut.- Colonel Reginald Seymour, c.v.o., equerry to H.M. the King, has recently been announced. 
Lady Katharine (1900–1985) was the youngest daughter of the 3rd Duke of Abercorn, James Hamilton, and his wife, Rosalind Bingham.
  • Royal Service: She was appointed a Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Mary in 1927.
  • Family Ties: She was a bridesmaid at the 1923 wedding of Prince Albert (later King George VI) and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (the future Queen Mother). Through her sister, Lady Cynthia Hamilton, she was a great-aunt to Diana, Princess of Wales.
  • Lieut.-Colonel Sir Reginald Seymour (1878–1938) was a career soldier and courtier who served as Equerry in Ordinary to King George V for 20 years (1916–1936).
  • Military Career: He served in the South African War and World War I, where he was severely wounded.
  • Marriages: His first wife, Winifred Akroyd, died in 1925. He and Lady Katharine announced their engagement in July 1930 and married on August 6, 1930.
  • Legacy: Their son, Major George Raymond Seymour, continued the family tradition of royal service, serving as an equerry to the Queen Mother for nearly 50 years.
