The featured frontispiece this week is a portrait of H.R.H. The Duke of Connaught inspecting the Yeomen of the Guard at St James’s Palace.

Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850–1942) was the seventh child and third son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and was often regarded as one of her favourite sons.

• Military Career: He enjoyed a long and distinguished military career spanning over 40 years, rising to the rank of Field Marshal in 1902 and serving across the British Empire, including South Africa, Egypt, and India.
• Governor General of Canada: In 1911, he became the first member of the British royal family to serve as Governor General of Canada, a position he held until 1916.
• Marriage and Family: He married Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia in 1879. Their children included Princess Margaret (later Crown Princess of Sweden), Prince Arthur of Connaught, and Princess Patricia, after whom the regiment Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry is named.
• Longevity: He lived to the age of 91, becoming the last surviving son of Queen Victoria.
