Schott – Aroideae Maximilianae (1879)

Discover a remarkable collection of 42 antique botanical illustrations from Aroideae Maximilianae, published in Vienna by C. Gerold's Sohn in 1879.

Based on the botanical research and manuscript notes of Heinrich Wilhelm Schott (1794–1865) and prepared for publication by Johann Peyritsch (1835–1889), this magnificent work documents tropical aroid plants collected during Maximilian's expedition to Brazil in 1859–1860.

Beautifully illustrated by Wenzel Liepoldt, the original colour lithographs capture the extraordinary forms, rich colours and intricate botanical details of these exotic plants.

About C. A. M. Lindman and Bilder ur Nordens Flora

Explore our collection of original antique botanical prints from Bilder ur Nordens Flora (Illustrations of the Flora of the North), the celebrated three-volume botanical work by Swedish botanist Carl Axel Magnus Lindman (1856–1928).

First published between 1901 and 1905, this important work was based on the earlier Svensk Botanik by Johan Wilhelm Palmstruch and was subsequently revised and expanded. The 1922–1926 edition, published in Stockholm by Wahlström & Widstrand, comprises 663 beautifully detailed colour botanical plates across three volumes.

The illustrations depict the remarkable diversity of Scandinavian and Northern European flora, including wildflowers, flowering plants, grasses, ferns, trees and medicinal plants.

The three volumes comprise:

  • Volume I: Botanical plates 1–221
  • Volume II: Botanical plates 222–441
  • Volume III: Botanical plates 442–663

Our collection features original period botanical prints, not modern reproductions. Each print offers a fascinating combination of botanical accuracy, historical craftsmanship and decorative appeal.

Ideal for collectors of antique botanical art, natural history enthusiasts and those seeking distinctive vintage artwork for the home.
