Lady Blades nee Margaret Emma Reiner Country Life Magazine Portrait, Frontispiece, October 9 1926. LX No. 1551

The featured frontispiece this week is a portrait of Lady Blades, whose husband, Sir Rowland Blades, Bt., M.P., is to succeed Sir William Pryke as Lord Mayor of London. Lady Blades, who is a daughter of Mr. Arthur Reiner, was married in 1907, and has a son and three daughters.

  • Lady Blades (Margaret, Baroness Ebbisham): She was the daughter of Arthur Reiner of Sutton, Surrey. She married George Rowland Blades in 1907.
  • Sir Rowland Blades (1st Baron Ebbisham): A prominent printer and politician, he was the MP for Epsom from 1918 to 1928. He was created a Baronet in 1922 and later elevated to the peerage as Baron Ebbisham in 1928
  • Children: As noted in the text, the couple had four children.
  • Hon. Margaret Agnes Blades (Twin): Born in 1908, she married Brigadier Richard John Penfold Wyatt in 1933 and had two sons, Hugh and John.
  • Hon. Helen Elizabeth Blades (Twin): Born in 1908, she married Admiral Hon. Sir Guy Herbrand Edward Russell (son of the 2nd Baron Ampthill) in 1939.
  • Rowland Roberts Blades (Son): Born in 1912, he succeeded his father as the 2nd Baron Ebbisham and married Flavia Mary Meade.
  • Hon. Janet Mary Blades: Born in 1916, she married Captain John Edwin Home McBeath in 1952
  • Social Debut: In May 1927, Lady Blades presented her twin daughters, Margaret and Helen, at the First Court of the Season at Buckingham Palace.
  • Extinction of Title: Because the 2nd Baron (Rowland Roberts Blades) did not have a surviving male heir (his only son died in infancy), the Baron Ebbisham title became extinct upon his death in 1991
