Miss Catherine Aird Life Magazine Portrait, Frontispiece, November 2, 2000. CXCIV No. 44

Miss Catherine Aird - Catherine, aged 28, is currently taking part in the Big Bus Ride, a 20,000-mile journey through 18 countries from London, via Canada, across North and South America, to raise more than £200,000 for the charity War child. Catherine, a researcher on the Daily Express, is one of the five multi-national crew, chosen from more than 2,000 applicants, who live, sleep and eat on this 1958 double-decker bus. Nine weeks into the journey, they are currently driving through Texas, and hope to arrive at Tierra del Fuego in May. The first of a 13-part documentary series on the Big Bus Ride will be shown on UK Horizons at 9.30pm on December 31.

This is an authentic original page from Country Life magazine, part of the iconic series often affectionately referred to as the “Girls in Pearls” portraits — elegant society images that captured a distinctive era of British publishing and portraiture.
