The featured frontispiece this week is a portrait of Lady Blades, whose husband, Sir Rowland Blades, Bt., M.P., was due to succeed Sir William Pryke as Lord Mayor of London. Lady Blades, daughter of Mr Arthur Reiner, married in 1907 and had a son and three daughters.

Lady Blades (Margaret Emma Reiner) was the daughter of Arthur Reiner of Sutton, Surrey, and married George Rowland Blades in 1907.

  • Sir Rowland Blades: A prominent printer and politician, he served as MP for Epsom from 1918 to 1928. He was created a Baronet in 1922 and later elevated to the peerage as Baron Ebbisham in 1928.
  • Children: The couple had four children:
    • Margaret Agnes Blades (born 1908), who married Brigadier Richard John Penfold Wyatt
    • Helen Elizabeth Blades (born 1908), who married Admiral Sir Guy Herbrand Edward Russell
    • Rowland Roberts Blades (born 1912), who became the 2nd Baron Ebbisham
    • Janet Mary Blades (born 1916), who married Captain John Edwin Home McBeath
  • Social Debut: In May 1927, Lady Blades presented her twin daughters at the First Court of the Season at Buckingham Palace.
  • Extinction of Title: The title of Baron Ebbisham became extinct in 1991 following the death of the 2nd Baron without a surviving male heir.
