Edward Guy Dawber Country Life Magazine Portrait, Frontispiece, October 31 1925. LVIII No. 1504

The featured frontispiece this week is a portrait of Mr E. Guy Dawber, newly appointed President of the Royal Institute of British Architects. A Norfolk man, he began his practice in Gloucestershire around 1890 before moving to London the following year, where he quickly established a distinguished reputation. Mr Dawber carried out a large number of important civic and domestic works, and was particularly noted for his country houses, many inspired by the Cotswold tradition. He was equally adept at designing houses of Georgian character. He was due to deliver his Presidential address to the Institute on November 2, 1925.

Edward Guy Dawber (later Sir Guy Dawber) served as President of the Royal Institute of British Architects from 1925 to 1927 and was a leading figure in the later Arts and Crafts movement.
