c.1819 Department of Allier, France, Antique Card Map by Bourrut-Le Meri – Rare 1st Edition

An original early 19th-century French educational card map from Analyse géographique des départements de la France, published in Paris by Bourrut-Le Meri around 1819.

The map is finely engraved and hand coloured. The colouring appears to be original or very early.

EDITION – This example is from the scarce first edition, c.1819. Later editions were published around 1830 and 1836.

DATE PRINTED – c.1819.

SIZE – Approximately 13.5 x 8.3 cm.

CONDITION – A genuine antique card more than 200 years old. As expected, there may be age-related imperfections such as toning, marks, spotting, creases, small holes, handwriting, edge wear, trimming or minor tears. Both the front and reverse of the actual card are shown in the photographs so that its condition can be assessed in detail. Please study the images carefully as they form an important part of the description.

PROVENANCE – This card comes from an incomplete period set of Bourrut-Le Meri French departmental cards.

PLEASE NOTE – The first two images show the actual card being offered for sale, front and reverse. The additional three photographs show the original box and surviving introductory cards from the set and are included for provenance and historical context only. Only the individual map card shown in the first two images is included in the sale.
