Lemau de la Jaisse Map of Peronne, Picardy, France 1736
Lemau de la Jaisse was a French cartographer who produced one noteworthy and rare publication, ‘Plans des Principales Places de Guerre et Villes Maritimes Frontieres du Royaume de France’ in 1736.
This contained some beautiful wood engraved plans of forts and ports throughout France and each plan is most ornate with a frame, illustrations of guns and cannon, and heraldry. Unusually, in the manner of a Blaeu title page, the plan and heraldic circles have been pasted on the prepared background.
This attractive plan of the fortified town of Peronne, is one of these truly scarce maps. The map names the Somme river, and the crest of the city is below the map. We have included a scan of the title page for reference (not available).
The map measures 3.5″ by 6″, has full wash hand colouring, and is in very good condition.
